Dubai's Al Satwa Roundabout Is Now a Signalised Intersection

Dubai's Al Satwa Roundabout has been converted into a signalised intersection. The RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) announced the works were complete on 14 October 2026. If you drive towards Satwa, Jumeirah or the Trade Centre, the way you get through this junction has changed.

A conversion that was already planned

This conversion was part of the Al Wasl Road development project RTA announced in June 2025. The Dubai Media Office announcement (3 June 2025) says the project will "convert the Al Satwa roundabout into a signalised junction". This week's announcement does not say when the rest of that project will be finished.

The nearby Trade Centre Roundabout also became an at-grade intersection on 8 October (our Trade Centre article). Driving in this area has changed two weeks in a row.

What to do as a driver

  • Follow the signals and lane signs: Don't go in with roundabout habits. Turning lanes may also have changed.
  • Watch the pedestrian signals: At a signalised junction, people on the crossings move differently. Take extra care when turning.
  • Don't rely only on your navigation app: Until map apps catch up, follow the signs on site.
